A shower that appeared in the Speedway 1.5-mile Kentucky, after half of the 48 cars attempting to make the first Quaker State 400 had their qualifying races, forced NASCAR to cancel the session and set the field to practice speeds turned in earlier in the day's practice session only.
Since Friday's qualifying session could not be completed, Kyle Busch won the pole. Busch was the fastest in the practice session earlier in the day only. The morning practice was happy.
Juan Pablo Montoya, second fastest in practice, will start on the pole outside, followed by Kurt Busch, Kasey Kahne and Jimmie Johnson.
Brad Keselowski, Carl Edwards, David Ragan, who won his first Sprint Cup race last Saturday at Daytona, Tony Stewart and Paul Menard are thrown out of six and 10, respectively.
Ragan, who notched his first victory last Saturday at Daytona Coupe, was disappointed with the rainout, although it earned him a top 10 position starting.
"It 'a shame to see it was raining, but Ford is a fast," said Ragan. "We had a good test session of the week [Thursday], and we are excited about the launch of the first 10. Our program of a mile and a half has been really solid this year, so we are waiting for the race.
"It will be exciting for the fans and everyone be a night race and the Cup race here in the first place. I came here a couple of times in the truck and the whole country, so we know how to get to this place ".
