NEW YORK - 2011-CONCACAF Gold Cup final will be played at the Rose Bowl on June 25, return to play the title of the continental championship for the 90,000-seat stadium for the 20th anniversary of the tournament.
This will be the third time in the Gold Cup which starts on June 5 was played on the field for the 1994 World Cup finals, the first since 2002, and the second time the final was held in Pasadena, California.
"We are excited to return to the Rose Bowl to crown the champion of our region. The Gold Cup has grown significantly over the past 20 years and the Rose Bowl is still a great place to celebrate our end," CONCACAF General Secretary Chuck Blazer.
The Rose Bowl hosted 10 games in 2002 - including the championship game. Wednesday's announcement comes in the final of the West Coast of the United States after having played in the Azteca Stadium in Mexico City in 2003, near Giants Stadium in New York in 2005 and 2009, and Soldier Field Chicago in 2007.
Mexico won last year's final of the U.S., before a crowd of nearly 80,000 at Giants Stadium. In 2011, the winner will qualify as the CONCACAF representative at the 2013 Confederations Cup.
"The Rose Bowl is pleased to host the final of the Gold Cup in its 20 th anniversary," said Rose Bowl General Manager Daryl Dunn. "We recognize the importance of the tournament, and I believe this event will add to the great history of football for us because we are the only institution in the world that hosted the final of the World Cup (1994), Women's World Cup (1999) and the Olympic Games men (1984).
